Social Media Policy
The Montgomery County Libertarian Party Committee maintains several social media channels to spread the word about its mission, goals, and activities. Currently, those include:
- Meetup
- Google Group
The Facebook account includes a Page and a Group which are meant to serve the distinct purpose of advancing discussion of our message.
The Facebook Page is reserved for announcements of events and policies and for sharing anything posted on the website or liberty-related news from other sources. Given that everything posted on the Page is visible to the public, admins should not post anything that might be considered personal or unrelated to the mission of the Committee.
The Facebook Group is for general discussion about anything liberty-related. As it is a closed group, only members of the Group can see the discussion. Anyone seeking to join the Group should be a member of the Libertarian Party and the county Committee, and must answer at least one question before being admitted. Currently that question is “What are taxes?” and the answer is “Theft.”
The Google Group is available to all members in good standing to post announcements, concerns, questions, and comments about anything related to the mission of the Committee.
Admins
On Facebook, administrators have the ability to post as the page itself or as their personal identity. When posting content to a page, it should be posted under the page name. However, when responding to content admins should comment using their personal identity to avoid confusion in messaging.
Rules for commenting and participation:
Keep discussion civil, without profanity or gratuitous use of expletives;
Keep discussion limited to issues concerning the libertarian philosophy, the Libertarian Party, county Committee, or issues related to the Libertarian Party and its platform;
No trolling (posting inflammatory and digressive, extraneous, or off-topic messages, with the intent of provoking readers into displaying emotional responses and normalizing tangential discussion.)
No personal attacks directed to anyone
No disruption of committee business
No flame wars (posting insults, often laced with profanity or other offensive language).
Member and General User blocking and banning
Members and general users who have violated the above rules will be subject to blocking from MontcoLP social media channels.
Violators will receive one warning from any admin member. A second warning will invoke a vote of the Board of Directors. Removal requires a simple majority vote. If the violator survives the vote, the warning will remain in effect for 90 days from the original citation.
If the Violator is otherwise a Committee member in good standing, they may appeal to the general Committee for reinstatement at the following monthly meeting. Reinstatement requires a simple majority vote. In the event of a tie, the Chair shall cast the deciding vote.
Suspended Committee members who remain in good standing for may regain access after one year from removal.
