Slack Channel Policy
The MontcoLP Committee has adopted Slack as its internal discussion forum. The Channel is open to all members in good standing and participation is encouraged. In order to foster a productive and inclusive environment, we expect all participants to adhere to the following policies and guidelines.
Within Slack are a number of dedicated sub-channels concerned with various aspects of Committee governance and created for its subcommittees. Members may also conduct private group discussions.
Public Forum policy
As this is a forum of a private entity, the Board of Directors reserves the right to enforce the following code of conduct by suitable editing of posted communications:
- Keep discussion civil, without profanity or gratuitous use of expletives;
- Keep discussion limited to issues concerning the libertarian philosophy, the Libertarian Party, county committee, or issues related to the Libertarian Party and its platform;
- No trolling (posting inflammatory and digressive, extraneous, or off-topic messages, with the intent of provoking readers into displaying emotional responses and normalizing tangential discussion.)
- No personal attacks directed to anyone
- No disruption of committee business
- No flame wars (posting insults, often laced with profanity or other offensive language).
- Information discussed or shared in the Slack channels is private between members of the county committee.
Sub-Channels
Sub-Channels are intended primarily for sub-committees, the Board of Directors, and for members involved in the planning of events and may be created by committee chairs.
Members no longer participating in subcommittees or the board should be removed by the committee chair or upon request.
Sub-channel members in closed forums shall not disclose discussions in their respective subchannels to any public channel without the consent of the governing subcommittee. Breach of this policy will be cause for removal from the sub-channel and its committee.
Member Suspension
Members who have violated the above rules will be subject to suspension from the Slack channel.
Violators will receive one warning from any officer. A second warning will invoke a vote of the Board of Directors. Removal requires a simple majority vote. If the violator survives the vote, the warning will remain in effect for 90 days.
The suspended member may appeal to the general Committee for reinstatement at the following monthly meeting. Reinstatement requires a simple majority vote. In the event of a tie, the Chair shall cast the deciding vote.
As long as the suspended member otherwise retains their Committee membership status, they may regain access after one year from removal.
